Graduations: from Charleston to Columbus

So I've finally graduated college! Charleston was hot of course, but the family came and stuck it out for me. And of course there are the fabulous pictures to prove it. The morning started off a little hectic: while family members were lined up AROUND THE BLOCK (all the way to the Starbucks on Calhoun St) to get into the cistern, we students had to wait for a good two hours in Maybank Hall. I got to the room for history majors, and quickly found out that I didn't really know many of my fellow majors. It was sad, but that happens when so many of your friends are in different majors, some of whom were graduating in an entirely different ceremony. But we history majors know how to prepare ourselves: Mamosas. :) Someone brought champagne and orange juice, and it quickly got around the entire building that the history majors were having a huge party. I don't know about that (there were no blacklights or club dancing), but it served to calm some nerves.

The graduation itself was fun (although really hot for me- I sat in the sun the ENTIRE time). I can't remember the guy who sat next to me, but everyone was making their own peanut-gallery comments. I hope no one in the audience heard us, but it was entertaining. And as everyone got called to cross the Cistern, it was nice to have some solidarity when everyone started cheering for the last major to go. Seriously, it was a major of 3 people, in Latin American studies or something. The audience must have thought they had a lot of friends, but we were just happy that it was over!

I'm really going to miss Charleston, but here's to a new adventure in Knoxville, TN! (a place I've never actually been to....oy...)

Sam's graduation was very different. First, it was cold! For all of the pomp and circumstance of the actual ceremony, if you looked behind the audience, there were food carts! No joke, they were selling hot dogs, nachos, chips, cookies, and drinks! As soon as Sam's name was called, and I got the awesome picture of him with his diploma coming down the side steps, Dad and I decided to grab some chips. I mean, I'm all for supporting the graduates, but I would be lying if I didn't say it was pretty damn boring most of the time. There were 2 speakers at the Denison graduation, but both sucked. Everyone agrees the speaker for Charleston was much better (although I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have). As soon as it was over, we also had to hurriedly move Sam out of his dorm room, which is really bad planning on the University's part. But we FINALLY got back to Aunt Mary Beth's house for the family party, and Sam and I proceeded to take our "Yay We're Done With College, So Now Let's Goof Off!" pictures. Enjoy:
